5 Recipes for Hair Growth

You don’t need expensive hair treatments to grow your hair faster and longer. DIY hair growth treatments are usually better for your health and oftentimes more effective. All you need is to know what to combine and how much to use, and there are plenty of recipes online to choose from, plus I am here to help.

Coconut Oil and Avocado Paste

Coconut is always a great ingredient to use on the hair because it is like sebum, which is the body’s natural oil and what helps keep your scalp from drying out. Sebum coats the hair from the roots to protect it from damage. Coconut oil has lauric acid that helps bind the protein in the hair, protects the roots and strand and prevents them from breakage. The antioxidant also helps boost healthy hair growth.

Avocado is a great source of biotin and adding this B-complex vitamin can help hair grow more healthily.

To make this paste:

  • Place small amount of coconut oil in a bowl
  • Heat for about 30 seconds
  • Check to see if the coconut oil is soft but not liquified: It should be warm – not hot!
  • Mix in Avocado to make paste.
  • Use fingers to gently massage the mixture into you scalp and apply from root to tips.
  • Put hair in a bun and cover with shower cap.
  • Leave in for 30 mins to an hour.
  • Carefully wash out the coconut oil and a sulfate free moisturizing shampoo
  • Repeat once per week for best results.

Banana Mask

Bananas can infuse your scalp and hair with a stronger defense system and decrease oxidative stress. This type of stress can make your hair look brittle and aged. Banana mask if used over a period can help make hair follicles stronger and help hair to grow longer.

To make the mask:

  • Peel a banana and place it into a ceramic bowl and mash it.
  • Mash the banana until it is an even texture and consistency.
  • Apply the mask to your hair, pay close attention to your scalp and the roots of your hair.
  • Cover hair with plastic shower cap
  • Leave mask in for about 15-20 minutes.
  • Rinse hair with lukewarm water before using a conditioner for additional moisture and softness.

Banana Coconut Mask

Banana and Coconut make a great combo for colored treated hair that could used a moisture rich treatment. I got this recipe from healthline.com and think it’s amazing.

To make this mixture:

  • 1 tbsp. coconut oil (at room temp)
  • 1-2 rip bananas
  • Peel and mash the bananas in hands before placing it in a bowl or blender, along with coconut milk.
  • Mix until the mixture is an even texture and consistency.
  • Apply mask paying close attention to scalp and roots.
  • Apply shower cap and leave it in for 10-15 mins.
  • Rinse well with lukewarm water.

Coconut Oil and Lemon Juice

Leamon has been used in hair oils and hair masks for a long time because it promotes hair growth, fight dandruff and curbs premature greying hair. The citric acid also prevents hair follicles from getting loose, thus reducing hair fall which is beneficial for hair growth.

To try this mixture:

Gently warm the coconut oil first. Use one part lemon juice and two parts coconut oil and massage this mixture into your scalp (One part is an inexact measurement, it can mean 1 tbsp or 1 cup – you need to determine the right amount for your hair). Leave this in your hair overnight, or at least four to six hours, then rinse with cool water.

Don’t have the time to mix the recipes listed above try this on for size….

Almond Oil

According to healthline.com there are no clinical trials that prove almond oil is effective in making hair grow, but it can make your hair stronger and=d less prone to split ends, which means growth won’t be slowed by damaged hair.

To use the benefits of almond oil, try this:

Take regular almond oil and massage it into your hair, starting at the scalp and working to the tips. Let it sit for about 15 minutes and rinse it out. Use this treatment once per week for nourishment or twice per week if you are restoring dry or damaged hair.
